About this website

We started the Kujaja project on September 27, 2012. The original 127 members of this community wanted to make a photobook. Instead of sharing our photos online, we wanted to have something tangible to hold in our hands, something offline we’d make online. We democratically voted on the book’s theme. Water was chosen. We also needed to select an organization to whom we would donate the profit we’d earn with the book. The Bangladesh charity, Operation Water and Rice was chosen. After the Water book, the Kujaja community published several more photobooks including our first Street Photography book. Our current photobook, World-Street Photography 2015, will be on exhibit in Hamburg, Germany June 25, 2015.

Kujaja also runs weekly competitions, we blog and share our work and experiences, and we present online interviews from our photographers.

Kujaja currently has over 13,000 members from approximately 120 countries worldwide. As Kujaja continued to grow, we realized that many of our members were street photographers. In 2014, we decided to expand Kujaja by adding a second website, World Street Photography, which is dedicated solely to the street photography genre. There are many photo sites that produce books, but Kujaja is the only online photo community that uses the proceeds from their books to help others. By donating the profits, photography becomes something more than just a number of Facebook likes, votes, or compliments. Just as a good press photo can change the world, we can change the world too, one image at a time, with our photobooks and projects.

As Kujaja continues to grow, we are super excited about where we will be when 2015 comes to a close. We are also excited to share your photography… some on the best on the planet. If you would like to join us and share you amazing photos, please do!

Kujaja is a nonprofit organization. The money generated from the sale of our books is donated entirely to our charity organizations.
