Ashalayam - House of hope

We originally built this site to produce and sell photobooks to raise money for charities all over the world and turn our photography into something worthwhile and long lasting. Every book we have published to date has made a difference to someone that needs help. 100% of all the profits go directly to the charity we choose for each book.

This blog is all about the latest charity we have chosen for the One Minute on Earth book and also the World Street Photography book. We found this amazing organization, called Ashalayam, who help to grant safety and education for street children in Kolkata. We feel all children, wherever they are in the world, deserve an education and most importantly, shelter and protection.

Below is some more information on the organization and also a short film that gives insight into what they do and where our profits will be going. Please take the time and watch it all and we think you will agree we are all supporting a great charity.

We have been contacted by Angela Joacobi and Elisabeth Bott after we sent our first donation of profits from the One Night on Earth photobook and today we received a very nice thank you letter from Elisabeth.

Information about Ashalayam

The Don Bosco Ashalayam (Sanskrit for ' House of Hope') was founded by the Indian social worker and member of Salesians Father Anthony Thaiparamhil in 1986 in the poor of Pikhana (Calcutta-Howrah). Kolkata is one of the largest cities in India and is commonly known as the 'poor house' of India. The number of children (up to 15 years old) who live on the streets of Kolkata is currently estimated by UNICEF being over 100,000. These figures are inconceivable. They need our help and hopefully through all of our photography we can make a small difference for some of these poor kids. If you would like to read more or even donate directly please visit

Maybe the next time you get your camera out take a moment and think about what that next shot could do for someone that needs support ?

Soumya Shankar Ghosal and his friends in Kolkata  will try to visit the organization in the end of January 2014 so we will have so great photos from the organization in Kolkata to show you all.
