The human condition before photography

At Wallington House in Northumberland, in the 1850s, the Pre-Raphaelite artist William Bell Scott created eight large wall paintings capturing 2,000 years of local history. Scott packed each one with recognisable people and events all in jewel-bright colours.
This is the final one "Iron and Coal" of the series showing life at that time in Newcastle.

Dave Binyon also joined the Book with these photos:
the age of self
everyman's an island
health fanatic
mania
time time time
disillusion
doubt comes in
shipbuilding
all i ask of you
