Chris Suspect Concert / Party / Festival "street" competition

The new World Street Competitions have already been started and of course like any year we will try to do something differently. This year we asked the curators to choose their own theme for a competition. These competitions will run next to the normal WSP competitions. For Chris Suspect has been making so many great photos from concerts parties and festivals, we asked Chris to do a party competition. You might of course think, is a concert or a party or a festival street photography? For we consider street photography being life photography, which is photography reflecting our daily life as humans on earth, it is of course street photography.

Chris Suspect: I love a good party. Streets, clubs, houses, hotel rooms, it doesn't really matter. I am particularly drawn to the ones where inhibitions are thrown to the wind and people get out of control. It's at this stage when you can capture raw emotion, crazy antics, fights, sex, blood, or you name it, anything can happen and often does. Don’t be a fly on the wall. Go out and find some cool events and do your best to get swept up into the night and connect with humanity.

The son of a diplomat, Chris Suspect was born in the Philippines in 1968. He is a street and documentary photographer hailing from the Washington, D.C. area. He specializes in capturing absurd and profound moments in the quotidian. His street photography work has been recognized internationally and has been exhibited in Miami, Germany, Georgia and the United Kingdom. His documentary work on the underground music scene in Washington, D.C., was published as a book, Suspect Device, by Empty Stretch in 2014 and was a featured exhibit in the Leica Galerie at Photokina 2014 in Koln, Germany. In 2015, this same series was exhibited at the Tblisi History Museum in Georgia during the Kolga Tblisi Photo Festival. The work is currently held in the Leica Galerie Archives. Since 2012 he has been a member of the STRATA photo collective, focussing on street photography and located in Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles.

In this past year, Suspect was named a finalist in the Urban Picnic Street Photography Awards (UK), a finalist in the Miami Street Photography Festival and was shortlisted for the International Street Photography Awards (UK). Locally, he was named the winner of the Washington City Paper’s 2014 Photography Contest. Previously served as a judge for the Miami Street Photography festival during Miami Art Basel (2013), he won Photo District News’ “The Scene” contest for music photography (2013) and received an honorable mention in the Chicago Photographic Society’s first annual street photography contest (2013).

Suspect’s work has recently been featured in the Huffington Post, Photo District News and on the Leica Camera Blog. He also has published photographs in the Washington Post, Washington City Paper, CNN, The Atlantic, Forbes and many other media outlets in the US, Germany, Canada and Brazil.

The 4th World Street Photography book is out now!

We are totally proud to announce to you that our 4th World Street Photography Photo book is out now and can be ordered at World Street Photography. The book contains 222 inspiring street photos from 160 photographers from 36 countries. The intro of the book is written by Michael Ernest Sweet and is a must read! The cover of the book is made by Ed Robertson and the back is made by Michał Orliński
Within the 4th World Street Photography book there is also a selection of the projects “The porch” and “Public Transportation”, both great projects which had been going for years and now found a place in the book.

Siegfried Hansen's Urban Geometry competition

The new World Street Competitions have already been started and of course like any year we will try to do something differently. This year we asked the curators to choose their own theme for a competition. These competitions will run next to the normal WSP competitions. Siegfried Hansen' of course wanted to do his favourite theme in street Photography: Urban Geometry.

Upload your best street photos which have geometrical or Abstract forms in it. Leave out the watermarks if possible and upload in HIGHRES, at least 3500px width.

The curator's choices will get a place into the WSP5 book!

Upload limitations
Please upload only 3 photos per month. Each month when the competition is running we will add 3 to the total amount of photos you may upload. So, if you didn't upload the first 3 months you may upload 9 photos. If more than 1000 photos are uploaded we will start a second competition and close the first one.

Some examples of Urban Geometry made by Siegfried Hansen

Siegfried Hansen traces visual compositions from graphics and colours and creates „Street Photography“ which main points are not humans and faces, but graphic connections and formal relations. It shows the aesthetics of the coincidence in a public area, which is full of surprises.

He is one of 45 famous street photographers from around the world, profiled in the book “Street Photography Now” by Thames and Hudson.

Since April 2014 member of the worldwide famous streetphotographer-collective iN-PUBLiC.

Jonathan Higbee's Juxtaposition competition

The new World Street Competitions have already been started and of course like any year we will try to do something differently. This year we asked the curators to choose their own theme for a competition. These competitions will run next to the normal WSP competitions. Jonathan Higbee will start this year 2 competitions and the first one will be: Juxta position.

Upload your best street photos that join two or more unrelated elements into one cohesive story. At least one of the elements must include people. Be clever, be creative, and ensure your juxtaposition has a purpose. Leave out the watermarks if possible and upload in HIGHRES, at least 3500px width.

The curator's choices will get a place into the WSP5 book!
