	Jonathan Higbee's Queer Life competition The new World Street Competitions have already been started and of course like any year we will try to do something differently. This year we asked the curators to choose their own theme for a competition. These competitions will run next to the normal WSP competitions. Jonathan Higbee will start this year 2 competitions and the second one is a LGBTQ contest: Queer Life What is life like for the queer people of your country? As the fight for LGBTQ equality continues across every inch of the globe, how do your gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender countrymen celebrate their pride, maintain their identity or even just find their community? This groundbreaking photography competition calls for captivating and creative street photography work that conveys the global diversity of the LGBTQ community and the authentic lives they lead around the world. Unfortunately, many governments consider being gay, or discussing the gay community, a crime. To protect the identity and safety of the queer people living in these hostile locations (and the safety of photographers), we won’t accept images made in the countries listed below into this competition. It is our hope that this contest and this particular stipulation will keep the conversation about global gay rights going, and that LGBTQ people in these countries will soon be freed from persecution. Countries where being gay is a crime punishable by death: Sudan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Mauritania, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Qatar, UAE, Nigeria, Somalia, Syria, Iraq. Countries where being gay or discussing the gay community is punishable by prison: Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, Somalia, Tunisia, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Lithuania and Russia. The curator's choices will get a place into the WSP5 book! Upload limitations - Please upload only photos which are about Queer life. - Please upload only 3 photos per month. 	Alex Coghe's Documentary Series competition The new World Street Competitions have already been started and of course like any year we will try to do something differently. This year we asked the curators to choose their own theme for a competition. These competitions will run next to the normal WSP competitions. Here is Alex Coghe's idea: Our understanding of the world and our society passes through a real and felt emotional connection with the stories we can find and document. Social documentary photography usually follows a particular topic, it is a documentation of a single story,analyzed in-depth and this requires time. Time and a series of photos. For this competition we want to see your series of photos, we want to see your projects. This is a competition open to all the storytellers and documentary photographers. 	Alex Coghe is an Italian Photojournalist based in Mexico. Born in Rome (Italy), currently based in Mexico City, Alex Coghe is a photojournalist, publisher, writer and street photographer. Street Photography, Social Documentary, but also portraits, events, fashion and erotica are his specializations. Currently he is journalist at Rome Central Magazine. He has published among others on Lens Culture, Witness Journal, Il Messaggero, Doc!, Photowoa, The Phoblographer, Cuartoscuro, and Excelsior. His work so far was exhibited in several collective shows from Los Angeles to Miami, from Barcelona to Hamburg arriving to exhibit his work also in a theater in Rome. Alex Coghe is currently editor/publisher of the electronic magazines THE STREET PHOTOGRAPHER NOTEBOOK and LA STRADA. Alex is also a prolific writer with several books published about photography technique and visual culture. He is also giving photography workshops and photo tours in Mexico and all over the world, thanks to the fact he speaks 3 languages: Italian, English and Spanish. 	The 4th World Street Photography book is out now! We are totally proud to announce to you that our 4th World Street Photography Photo book is out now and can be ordered at World Street Photography. The book contains 222 inspiring street photos from 160 photographers from 36 countries. The intro of the book is written by Michael Ernest Sweet and is a must read! The cover of the book is made by Ed Robertson and the back is made by Michał Orliński Within the 4th World Street Photography book there is also a selection of the projects “The porch” and “Public Transportation”, both great projects which had been going for years and now found a place in the book. This money goes directly to the German Ashalayam organization who support street children by giving them shelter, food, education and love. 	Lauren Welles is a former corporate attorney who switched careers in order to focus full-time on her passion for photography. While her commercial photography spans a wide range of genres, the streets are where her heart is happiest. Her work is known for its multi-layered compositions and the stories they create. She is based in New York City. Lauren’s work has been exhibited in various venues including "The Fence" at Photoville, NYC & Atlanta; the Museum of the City of New York; PhotoLeiden, The Netherlands, Umbrella Arts Gallery, NYC; The Center For Fine Art Photography, Ft. Photo Vinod Babu
	Vinod Babu's Workers competition For we think that street photography is life photography, and is about human life on earth, we would like to not only find great juxtapositions and brilliant geometry shot but also life photography with a more social core. While looking for life photography with a social core we found Vinod Babu. Vinod Bau has made a great serie called Refugess in Homeland (click to see it) and which is a study about the worst water crises in the state of Telangana. We are very happy that Vinod joined up the curators team and he choose his own competition theme: Workers. Vinod Babu: In our day to day busy life, we often keep missing out to recognize people who are out there working. Right from your maid who works at your house to a person across the road drilling to fix a broken sewer line. Especially in India, a country which still needs a lot of support and welfare measures towards its working class so, do treat this as an opportunity to look around, interact and bring out the stories of those hidden gems. Along with you all throughout the competition period, I will be shooting on this theme ‘workers’ as I am equally excited and will keep sharing images every now and then. 	Chris Suspect Concert / Party / Festival "street" competition The new World Street Competitions have already been started and of course like any year we will try to do something differently. This year we asked the curators to choose their own theme for a competition. These competitions will run next to the normal WSP competitions. For Chris Suspect has been making so many great photos from concerts parties and festivals, we asked Chris to do a party competition. You might of course think, is a concert or a party or a festival street photography? For we consider street photography being life photography, which is photography reflecting our daily life as humans on earth, it is of course street photography. Chris Suspect: I love a good party. Streets, clubs, houses, hotel rooms, it doesn't really matter. I am particularly drawn to the ones where inhibitions are thrown to the wind and people get out of control. It's at this stage when you can capture raw emotion, crazy antics, fights, sex, blood, or you name it, anything can happen and often does. Don’t be a fly on the wall. Go out and find some cool events and do your best to get swept up into the night and connect with humanity. Show me the life of the party! 	The son of a diplomat, Chris Suspect was born in the Philippines in 1968. He is a street and documentary photographer hailing from the Washington, D.C. area. He specializes in capturing absurd and profound moments in the quotidian. His street photography work has been recognized internationally and has been exhibited in Miami, Germany, Georgia and the United Kingdom. His documentary work on the underground music scene in Washington, D.C., was published as a book, Suspect Device, by Empty Stretch in 2014 and was a featured exhibit in the Leica Galerie at Photokina 2014 in Koln, Germany. In 2015, this same series was exhibited at the Tblisi History Museum in Georgia during the Kolga Tblisi Photo Festival. The work is currently held in the Leica Galerie Archives. Since 2012 he has been a member of the STRATA photo collective, focussing on street photography and located in Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles. In this past year, Suspect was named a finalist in the Urban Picnic Street Photography Awards (UK), a finalist in the Miami Street Photography Festival and was shortlisted for the International Street Photography Awards (UK). Locally, he was named the winner of the Washington City Paper’s 2014 Photography Contest. Previously served as a judge for the Miami Street Photography festival during Miami Art Basel (2013), he won Photo District News’ “The Scene” contest for music photography (2013) and received an honorable mention in the Chicago Photographic Society’s first annual street photography contest (2013). Suspect’s work has recently been featured in the Huffington Post, Photo District News and on the Leica Camera Blog.
