Fadi BouKaram's Protests competition
We mentioned before that we think that street photography is life photography, and is about human life on earth, we would like to not only find great juxtapositions and brilliant geometry shot but also life photography with a more social core.
While looking for life photography with a social core we found Fadi BouKaram. March with the people, document their protests.Turn on the news almost anywhere in the world and you'll see images of people protesting en masse, be it against wars or politicians, or in support of different causes. Show me a photo from such an event. Be objective and an unbiased observer. The curator's choices will get a place into the WSP5 book! Upload limitations - Please upload only photos which are about Protests. - Please upload only 3 photos per month. Each month when the competition is running we will add 3 to the total amount of photos you may upload. So, if you didn't upload the first 3 months you may upload 9 photos. If more than 1000 photos are uploaded we will start a second competition and close the first one. Click here to see the photos already uploaded and to join this competition

Fadi BouKaram is a Lebanese photographer who was born and raised a nerd. After graduate degrees in electrical engineering and business, and a career spanning computer programming, banking, and fiscal laws, he woke up one day too tired of being a corporate drone. Life was too short for photography to be a side dish. He gave away most of his earthly possessions, flew to the US, and went on a 5-month RV road trip; the imperialist influences of Robert Frank and John Steinbeck were too strong for this Arab to resist. Fadi is a co-founder of the international collective ‘Observe’, where members believe that navel-gazing is a four-letter word. He has exhibited, both solo and with the collective, in several dots on the globe. He is also working on his first book, which is going to be a smash hit. Homepage | WSP profil | Twitter

Jonathan Higbee's Queer Life competition

"Jonathan's being behind the camera seems to calm him, it seems to connect him with his subjects. I like that about this work. I also love that this work is in color. So much of what he captures here just wouldn't work in monochrome - and perhaps that instinct to search out these moments of color is what indicates a master color photographer more than anything."

Lauren Welles' Emotions competition
The new World Street Competitions have already been started and of course like any year we will try to do something differently.
This year we asked the curators to choose their own theme for a competition. These competitions will run next to the normal WSP competitions.
Lauren came up with a great competition idea which starts with a Quote: “ Seeing is not enough; you have to feel what you photograph – Andre Kertesz On the other hand, “ Photographers mistake the emotion they feel while taking the photo as a judgment that the photograph is good – Garry Winogrand Show me a photo that makes you feel something--joy, sadness, anger, fear, loneliness, curiosity, laughter, inspiration, compassion, excitement, tenderness or whatever else that forms part of this human experience we call "life."Lauren Welles Leave out the watermarks and upload in HIGHRES, at least 3500px width. The curator's choices will get a place into the WSP5 book! Upload limitations - Please upload only street photos with candid emotions. - Please upload only 3 photos per month. Each month when the competition is running we will add 3 to the total amount of photos you may upload. So, if you didn't upload the first 3 months you may upload 9 photos. If more than 1000 photos are uploaded we will start a second competition and close the first one. - Please upload photos only shot in 2017/2018.
